Witchenly

Witchenly is the original world of Wizardmon. It’s called “the Digital World of another dimension”, so there might me another parallel Earth.

In this world, sorcery and magic are an advanced program language, capable of shaping reality. It can be divided into four clan practicing elemental magic:

  • Earthlin (アースリン) – Earth magic.
  • Baluluna (バルルーナ) – Wind magic.
  • Enruge (エネルージュ) –  Fire magic.
  • Aquary (アクエリー) – Water magic.

Wizardmon’s magic, primarily made of thunder-based spells, doesn’t associate him with any of the clans, despite him having a Wind-based spell (Blink Breeze).

  • The land is ruled by the elders of each clan, as well as the three sage Digimon leading the council that governs said clans.
  • Mount Brocken lies in the center, around which the land is split into four blocks for each cardinal direction. Each block is occupied by a clan.
  • The clans worked together to establish a magic school atop Mount Brocken.
  • Some Digimon who mastered advanced programming languages at the magic school travel to the other Digital Worlds in pursuit of further growth.

The source of these informations comes from a series of book-shaped V-Pets released in 1998 by Bandai. They were later incorporated within the Digimon lore, in particular Witchenly, the setting of the pets.

Witchenly is not in the same dimension as Digiworld, but as for who the latter works, is implied that once a Witchenly creature comes to the Digital World, its data are registered and included in the vast database of possible evolutions. Thus, only Wizardmon from Adventure (and Xros Wars) and Medieval Dukemon from the manhua D-Cyber are originals, while other of the same species, i.e. the Wizardmon evolved from Candlemon in Digimon Frontier is just a Wizardmon, not THE Wizardmon.

Witchenly once was home of a forbidden Book, which held taboo secrets. Wizardmon stole it, and was banished for that. It’s clearly mentioned in the novel, as Wizardmon reminisces that time when Gatomon saved his life:

“It looks just like the day when I first came to this world.”
He reminisced as he mended the seams of the worn cloth bag he’d used to carry the Book during his long travels.
After fleeing from his original world, it was half due to banishment that he arrived into this one. The only things he had with him at the time were this book and staff.
Whoever owned or read from the forbidden Book was punished in his world. Although he knew this, he couldn’t hold back the urge to learn of its secret knowledge. As a result, he was exiled to this world. The composition of his body was changed so that he now looked like a life-sized doll.
Wandering this world for what seemed like ages, and not consuming much as he didn’t know what was edible or not, he managed to finally arrive at a village when he sank to the floor, his energy spent. The villagers seemed afraid to address this unknown wanderer who had collapsed on their streets because none of them dared to get close.
He should have died then. But then a small shadow approached him and called out to him. And now, although he only used it in the short periods when he had leave, he had even been given his own personal cabin.

Other reference to the Book can be found in Wisemon’s description from the Digimon Reference Book:

A Digimon completely shrouded in mystery, it can appear anywhere in time and space via the Book. Treating the Book as a spiritual vessel, it frequently alters its shape to appear anywhere within the spaces and times which the Book has connected, and it is said that its true form remains within a separate dimension.

As Wisemon is one possible evolution of Wizardmon, it’s safe to assume that the Book Wisemon’s description speaks about is the same Wizardmon stole.
The conclusion is that the forbidden knowledge is the magic (=the programming skill) to operate on time and space.

Aside from Wizardmon, many other entities came to the Digital World from Witchenly, in particular Witchmon, who is stated to be the rival of Wizardmon.

Vortex Warriors

In ancient Witchelny, when sorcery was still immature and had no means for it to defend itself from foreign invasions, it was on the road to ruin, but Medieval Dukemon suddenly appeared and completely repelled the invaders.
The Vortex Warriors (ヴォルテクスウォリアー, Vorutekusu Woriā) is a group of Digimon based in Witchelny lead by “Whirlwind General” Medieval Dukemon. Among all the magical systems of Fire, Earth, Water, and Wind, they battle using weapons made by Wind Sorcery.

The Digimon of Witchelny

Wizarmon– A master of fire and earth magic (advanced programming languages). Although it has something of a mischievous personality, Wizarmon is also fairly shy.
FlaWizarmon– A master of fire magic. FlaWizarmon is an ambitious Digimon who shows its true face with confidence.
Sorcerimon– A master of light and ice magic. Sorcerimon has the ability to heal wounds with the holy power of prayer.
Witchmon– A master of wind and water magic. Witchmon has a cruel streak and more than a bit of pride, and loathes both rules and established regulations.
Mistymon– A master of various magics, of which fire magic is its forte. Well-versed in both chivalry and sorcery.
MedievalDukemon– The legendary hero, said to have repelled invaders and protected the ancient world of Witchelny when magic was still in its infancy.
Hexeblaumon– A form that can only be reached by those who have mastered the magic of “ice”. It came to Witchery from an other-dimensional Digital World.
Wisemon– Born in a region of Witchelny lacking any connection to magic. Wisemon can appear at any point in time and space via its book.
